REST
The peach tree in my yard didn’t make peaches this year. When I investigated, I learned that if the peach tree produces an unusually large crop one year (which it did!), or has a hard winter (we had -40 degree wind chills!), it “rests” for a season to restore and replenish. When is the last time you gave yourself a rest break?
Are you tired? God didn’t call you to burn out, stress out, wear out, and work until you couldn’t any more. He called you to seasons of rest.
The one thing that needing both rest and sleep teach us is that we weren’t created to go on forever, like the Energizer Bunny. We need to stop, sit down, or go to bed, and let God take over for a while. We aren’t infinite, nor does God expect us to be. By resting and accepting our limitations, we are acknowledging that God is really the one who is in charge.
So rest, my friend. Go to bed early tonight, snuggle down in your covers, and let God handle the world for eight hours. That’s not your job. It’s His. Turn it over.
